Europe's Grand Canyon. One day. Easy day trip from the Côte d'Azur.
by @bebaconradGorges du Verdon is 25km long and up to 700 metres deep. The turquoise river at the bottom is fed by glacial melt — that colour is completely natural. It's about 2.5 hours from the Côte d'Azur and somehow still under the radar.
Start in Moustiers, ride the Route des Crêtes on electric bikes, finish with a swim at Lac de Sainte-Croix. Drive back to the coast with an apéritif glow.
Allow 2–2.5 hours depending on traffic. Leave early to beat the heat and secure parking in Moustiers.
Drive 2–2.5 hrsOne of France's most beautiful villages, built into dramatic limestone cliffs with a mountain stream running through the centre. Walk slowly. Look up — there's a golden star hanging between the two cliffs on a chain. Legend says a knight hung it there in the 13th century as a vow after returning from the Crusades.

Drive 30 minA spectacular 24km loop with clifftop viewpoints over the canyon. Electric bikes make the climbing manageable — the views make it unforgettable. Soaring vultures, dramatic drops, and the best scenery in Provence.

~3 hoursDrive 25–30 minutes to the lake. That turquoise colour is completely real — glacial water from the gorge. Beaches near Pont du Galetas, Les Salles-sur-Verdon, or Aiguines. The perfect swim after the ride.
